Objectivism is a revolutionary, recent philosophy developed throughout the 20th century by Russian-American philosopher and novelist Ayn Rand (1905 - 1982). We cover Objectivism in the final two weeks of the course for two reasons: first, because it is last chronologically - but second, because it is easier to appreciate how conceptually rational, practical and happiness-oriented Objectivism is after one has been exposed to its alternatives throughout the history of philosophy.
Ayn Rand was once asked to summarise her philosophy while standing on one foot. She replied:
In our first week on Objectivism, we are covering each of these fields and their relationships, primarily based on the writings and lectures of Leonard Peikoff. The following (and final) week will investigate the future of society based on an analysis of prevailing philosophical trends.
